On 23 January 2024, the European Chemicals Agency (ECHA) officially updated the SVHC candidate list, adding five substances to it and adding a new hazard property for the SVHC dibutyl phthalate (DBP). Resorcinol (CAS No. 108-46-3), which was proposed for inclusion in the SVHC list in June 2021, remains pending a decision and was not added to the candidate list this time. The candidate list now contains 240 substances in 30 batches.

Dibutyl phthalate (DBP) was added to the SVHC candidate list as early as October 2008 due to two hazard properties, "toxic for reproduction (Article 57c)" and "endocrine disrupting properties (Article 57(f) - human health)". This update adds the hazard property "endocrine disrupting properties (Article 57(f) - environment)".
