On 2 January 2025 the Saudi Communications, Space and Technology Commission (CST) and the Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) jointly announced enforcement of the new regulation on unified charging ports for electronic devices, effective in Saudi Arabia from 1 January 2025.

The first phase of the unified charging port requirement took effect on 1 January 2025. The second phase begins on 1 April 2026 and covers laptop computers.

SASO also wrote to relevant bodies in December clarifying the mandatory requirements:

· Submit a test report to SASO IEC 62368-1:2020 for information and communication technology equipment and audio and video equipment, Part 1: safety requirements
· Submit a declaration of conformity to SASO, included in the product technical file, committing that the unified charging port meets the performance requirements of SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023
· A one year grace period applies to these requirements from 1 January 2025
