On 28 May 2024 the recommended national standard GB/T 18488-2024, Drive motor systems for electric vehicles, approved by the State Administration for Market Regulation (Standardization Administration of China), formally took effect. It replaces GB/T 18488.1-2015, Drive motor systems for electric vehicles, Part 1: technical specifications, and GB/T 18488.2-2015, Part 2: test methods.

Scope of application

Motor drive systems, drive motors and drive motor controllers for electric vehicles. Vehicle motors and their controllers with only a generating function may refer to this document.

Implementation of GB/T 18488-2024 marks a further improvement of China's technical standards system for the electric vehicle industry and a higher level of industry standardisation. As the standard is applied more deeply, the domestic electric vehicle industry will develop more healthily and rapidly, supporting green mobility and sustainable development goals.
