On 14 June 2024 Mexico's Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFT) announced the start of public consultations on proposed amendments to the Guide for the use of the IFT mark on products, equipment and devices and to the Certification requirements for telecommunications or radio products, equipment and devices.
The two consultations run in parallel and reformulate the labelling requirements in the certification framework, the IFT certification guidelines dating from December 2021 and the IFT labelling guide from December 2023. The aim is to gather views, further improve and optimise the certification process and make market access more transparent and efficient.
Main changes
1. Amend the general characteristics that must be observed when printing, digitising or reproducing the IFT seal on an approved telecommunications or broadcasting product, equipment or device.
2. Allow temporary deposit of the vector file containing the IFT seal through online channels.
3. Change the effective date of the Guide for the use of the IFT seal on approved telecommunications or broadcasting products, equipment and devices to 31 March 2025.
Purpose of the revision
The IFT aims to adopt best practice in product labelling, avoiding regulatory disruption or technical barriers in the industry while ensuring there is a way to identify compliant products. This may include more flexible approaches for small products or products with screens, or alternatives such as placing the label in the user manual when it cannot be displayed on the product or packaging.
NTEK certification process
1. Submit documents and samples.
2. After NTEK pre-assessment passes, the sample is sent for local testing in Mexico.
3. Once the sample passes testing, a test report is issued.
4. An accredited certification body reviews the test report and issues the certificate.
