Chile's Superintendence of Electricity and Fuels (SEC) has issued several draft product safety certification protocols covering updates to the control scope for heat pumps, rotary hammers and electric irons. The drafts define the product types covered, the technical standards and the exemptions, further tightening market access requirements.
Heat pumps
SEC has published draft PE 1/44, adding heat pumps to the safety control list.
The draft sets safety certification requirements for single-phase heat pumps using expansion refrigerants with a rated power of 7 kW or less.
Products covered:
1. heat pumps for domestic hot water;
2. heat pumps for swimming pools;
3. heat pumps suitable for several of these applications.
The draft does not apply to:
1. air conditioning equipment under protocols PE 1/26:2009 and PE 1/26/2:2020;
2. mobile air conditioning equipment under protocol PE 1/29:2016;
3. mobile room dehumidifiers under protocol PE 1/29:2016;
4. air conditioning equipment based on geothermal heat pump technology under protocol PE 1/37:2021.
Rotary hammers
SEC has published draft PE 6/6, updating the control scope and standards for rotary hammers.
The draft sets safety certification requirements for rotary hammers and hammer drills designed mainly for household or similar use, with single-phase supply up to 250 V AC or 75 V DC and rated power up to 3,700 W.
The draft does not apply to drills and impact drills within the scope of IEC 62841-2-1 (PE 6/1).
Standards updated:
- IEC 62841-1:2014
- IEC 62841-2-6:2020
Electric irons
SEC has published draft PE 1/2, updating the control scope and standards for electric irons.
The draft sets safety certification requirements for dry and steam irons, including irons with a water tank or a separate boiler of no more than 5 litres, designed mainly for household and similar use at rated voltage up to 250 V, including DC input and battery-powered appliances.
The draft does not apply to:
1. ironing machines (IEC 60335-2-44);
2. ironing boards;
3. appliances designed exclusively for industrial purposes;
4. appliances for use in special environments, such as where corrosive or flammable gases, vapours or dust are present;
5. garment steamers (IEC 60335-2-85).
Standards updated:
IEC 60335-1:2020
IEC 60335-2-3:2022
