Indonesia's Directorate General of Posts and Informatics (KOMDIGI) published a notice on 23 July 2025 seeking public comment on a new technical standard (RKM) for land mobile radio communication equipment. The standard is intended to improve radio equipment management and enhance technical compatibility and safety.
Core changes
1. Electromagnetic compatibility: updated to international standards CISPR 32 or ETSI EN 301 489.
2. Electrical safety: adopting the latest editions of IEC 60950-1 or IEC 62368-1.
3. Equipment classification:
(1) land mobile radio equipment is divided into conventional radio, trunked radio and private mobile radio;
(2) conventional and trunked equipment are further divided into handportable, mobile, base station or repeater, and radio modem.
4. Frequency range adjustment: the previously broad operating range, for example 300-3000 MHz for UHF devices, is narrowed to 300-470 MHz only, and the 450-512 MHz band is prohibited, in line with Indonesia's frequency allocation table (TASFRI) and the equipment actually on the market.
5. Simplified test parameters: key interference-avoidance parameters such as operating frequency, channel spacing, output power and spurious emissions are retained, while non-essential items such as temperature and impedance are dropped.
6. Upgraded test methods: new test procedures aligned with international standards are added.
KOMDIGI called on telecom operators, equipment manufacturers, industry experts and the public to submit comments by 3 August 2025 so that the new standard balances technical advancement with practical operability. The revision brings Indonesia closer to international technical norms and strengthens the scientific management of radio spectrum.
