Key words of this article:

Chile's Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) has issued Resolution No. 966, amending Resolution No. 1985 of 2017 on the technical requirements for short-range devices (SRD).

What the regulation says

Resolution No. 966 was formally published on 27 May 2026. The main changes are as follows.

· The scope now includes frequency bands for medical implant communication systems (MICS). The provisions apply to active implantable medical devices operating at very low power in the 9-315 kHz band, where the electric field strength at 10 metres must not exceed 30 dBµA/m, or the equivalent value in dBµV/m.

· A new route has been introduced for submitting confidential information relating to technical characteristics. A confidential version of the test report can now be filed through the Undersecretariat's Virtual Parts Office. After filing, the registration number must be sent by email to the SUBTEL certification department together with the device identification information.

· The requirements for the QR code affixed to the device have been updated to ensure it can be read correctly. The responsible party may decide the size of the QR code provided it can be read and used correctly. It is recommended, however, that the QR code conform to ISO/IEC 18004.

These changes are intended to simplify access to confidential information in test reports and to improve the experience of regulators and manufacturers in using QR codes.
