On 28 April 2024 ANATEL published Public Consultation 29/2024, updating clause 11.7 of Act 14448 on technical requirements for conformity assessment of restricted radiation equipment. The proposed update would narrow the operating band for Brazilian 6 GHz Wi-Fi, affecting Wi-Fi 6E and Wi-Fi 7, from 5925-7125 MHz to 5925-6425 MHz. The change is intended to allow future deployment of IMT systems in the 6425-7125 MHz band in Brazil and to reduce spectrum interference. The consultation closed on 6 August 2024.

Proposed changes to Act 14448

New clauses 11.7.1.4 and 11.7.1.5

11.7.1.4. The initial factory settings of an access point must restrict device operation to the 5.925-6.425 GHz band.

11.7.1.5. Remote firmware updates intended to enable operation in the 5.925-7.125 GHz band may only be made available to the market when ANATEL changes these technical requirements.

New clause 11.7.4.1

11.7.4.1. Limits on spurious and out of band emissions must also be assessed with the operating band restricted to 5.925-6.425 GHz. The RMS value of spurious emissions and any emission outside the stated band must be limited to a maximum EIRP power spectral density of -27 dBm/MHz.

New clause 11.7.13

11.7.13. Access points must be able to adjust the operating range limits defined in the usage profile through remote and automatic firmware updates.

11.7.13.1. The remote and automatic firmware update function that can restrict the operating range must be enabled by default in the initial factory settings of the device.

11.7.13.2. Applicants for approval must submit a declaration stating that the access point is able to adjust its operating range limits through remote automatic firmware updates.
