On 10 November 2025 Singapore's Consumer Product Safety Office (CPSO) issued notice CPSO-101125-22 to registered suppliers, highlighting that recent market surveillance found non-compliance and unauthorised modification in some registered controlled goods. The suppliers concerned have been ordered to stop supply immediately. Under the notice, supplying or advertising controlled goods that have been suspended or prohibited is an offence, punishable on conviction by a fine of up to SGD 10,000 or imprisonment of up to two years, or both.

Key reminders and requirements

The CPSO restated several core obligations for registered suppliers:

1. Changes must be notified and recertified. Any modification to registered goods must be updated in the technical file, and where the change is technical the supplier must recertify or re-register the product.

2. Technical files must be properly kept. Suppliers must submit the technical file for registered goods to the CPSO within seven days of a request. Failure to comply is an offence punishable by a fine of up to SGD 2,000 or imprisonment of up to 12 months, or both.

3. Registration validity and renewal. Registration is valid for three years. To allow enough time for testing, certification and registration, renewal applications should be submitted six months before expiry.

The CPSO is part of the Competition and Consumer Commission of Singapore, and its core role is to ensure that consumer goods supplied in Singapore meet the relevant safety standards to protect consumers.
