Key words of this article:

On 22 May 2025 Chile's Undersecretariat of Telecommunications (SUBTEL) formally issued Exempt Resolution No. 737, making major revisions to the technical standard requirements for short range devices (SRD) set out in Resolution No. 1985 of 2017. The landmark update takes effect on 22 February 2026 and marks a new digital phase in Chile's regulation of wireless equipment.

Core reforms

(1) Certification overhaul:

(2) from the effective date, SUBTEL will stop issuing traditional paper approval certificates for low power devices;

(3) the only exception is medical implant communication systems, which keep the existing route;

(4) transition: products certified before 21 February 2026 may continue to be sold until the certificate expires.

Digital labelling requirements

(1) a QR code identification system becomes mandatory;

(2) technical specification: minimum size 1 cm by 1 cm, permanently affixed in a prominent position on the packaging;

(3) content: the code must link to an official Spanish-language website containing full product and manufacturer information, detailed technical parameters, test reports and a declaration of conformity prepared specifically for the Chilean market.

Responsibility

(1) the manufacturer and the Chilean importer share compliance responsibility;

(2) a product information database that can be updated in real time must be maintained.

Changes in supervision

(1) frequency ranges are reallocated, with commercial authorisation added for the 60 GHz band;

(2) emission limits are adjusted, with the power ceiling raised by 15% for some categories;

(3) a new electromagnetic compatibility test standard aligned with the latest ITU recommendations is introduced.

SUBTEL reminder

SUBTEL stresses that after the new rules take effect it will run a six-month targeted market inspection, with fines of up to 200 UTM, about USD 15,000, for products that do not meet the QR code requirements. The reform is intended to improve market supervision efficiency, facilitate trade in wireless equipment and safeguard consumers' right to information. Companies should begin compliance preparations promptly to ensure a smooth transition.
