On 25 February 2025 the Argentine Secretariat of Industry and Commerce published Resolutions 16/2025, 17/2025 and 26/2025, which set out the basic quality and safety requirements for electrical equipment.
Requirements of the resolutions
The resolutions include an update to the labelling of power cord plugs. Any plug may be used with a certified adapter disclaimer that complies with IRAM 2073/2071, carrying a mandatory label stating that the product is not supplied with an Argentine standard power plug and that a certified earthed adapter is required to ensure safety is not affected.
Changes introduced
From 26 February 2025 the following resolutions cease to be valid:
1. Resolución 169/2018 on electrical safety, provided the corresponding monitoring is maintained; electrical products certified under that resolution remain valid until 26 February 2026.
2. Resolución 731/1987 on power cord labels for Class I and Class II products.
3. Resolución 524/1998 on minimum safety conditions for plugs and sockets.
Entry into force
Manufacturers and importers must submit a declaration of conformity and comply with the conformity assessment procedures required to sell goods in Argentina. From 1 October 2025 the conformity mark, namely the conformity seal and a QR code, must be affixed to the goods or their primary packaging.
