In automotive reliability testing, temperature and humidity are inseparable factors. Temperature testing is environmental simulation of the physical and other relevant characteristics of a product at low temperature, high temperature and various conditions, to test its heat and cold resistance. It generally includes high temperature tests, low temperature tests, temperature and humidity change tests and thermal shock tests.
High temperature test. Determines the suitability of a product for storage, transport and use in a high temperature climate. The severity depends on the high temperature and the exposure duration.
Low temperature test. Determines the suitability of a product for storage, transport and use in a low temperature climate. It is often used for type testing in the development stage and for component screening. Severity depends on the low temperature and the exposure duration.
Rapid temperature change test. A temperature change with a specified rate of change, often simulating regions with large day-night temperature differences, to judge the suitability of a product for storage or operation under changing temperature. It can also be used for life testing to evaluate appearance, mechanical performance and electrical performance.
Thermal shock test. Mainly verifies the condition of a sample in use and storage under rapid changes between high and low temperature. It is an indispensable test in design qualification and in routine testing during series production, and can also be used for environmental stress screening in some cases.
Constant damp heat test. Determines the effect of a constant temperature, non-condensing high humidity environment on the sample over a specified time. It provides a basis for improving product reliability and confirms whether service life and reliability meet the design requirements of the complete product.
Temperature and humidity cycling test. Determines the suitability of a sample for use and storage under damp heat conditions with condensing surfaces caused by cyclic temperature change.
Alternating damp heat test. Uses the alternation of condensation and drying caused by temperature cycling under high humidity to make moisture inside the sample breathe, accelerating the corrosion process.
