On 24 March 2023 the Governor of New York signed bill S01322, amending sections S.6291-A and A.7063-A of the Environmental Conservation Law to prohibit the intentional use of PFAS in apparel and outdoor apparel.
California law imposes a ban on apparel, outdoor apparel, textiles and textile articles containing regulated PFAS chemicals. Existing law also bans PFAS chemicals in food packaging and in products for children, whereas New York bill S01322 focuses only on banning PFAS chemicals in apparel and outdoor apparel: apparel and outdoor apparel, excluding apparel for severe wet conditions, take effect on 1 January 2025; outdoor apparel for severe wet conditions takes effect on 1 January 2028.
