Mongolia's Communications Regulatory Commission (CRC) has announced that its nationwide 5G network is complete and commercially live, a major leap forward in the country's digital infrastructure.
5G goes commercial
Alongside the launch, the CRC has strengthened equipment approval requirements. Under the new rules, all devices supporting 5G must complete mandatory type certification before entering the Mongolian market. The aim is to ensure that equipment ranging from industrial sensors to consumer smartphones operates safely in the newly licensed bands and complies with national technical standards.
The CRC has completed the award of 5G spectrum licences and several leading telecom operators have received authorisation to operate. The strategic deployment is intended to provide high-speed, low-latency connectivity for national innovation and to support a modern digital economy.
The arrival of 5G is expected to bring significant progress in Mongolia's key industries, driving digital transformation in manufacturing, agriculture, energy, healthcare and smart cities.
Important note for manufacturers
As Mongolia enters the 5G era, equipment manufacturers should treat local type certification as a priority and complete it as soon as possible to secure continued market access and compliant sales. Companies are advised to engage an accredited local compliance agent or testing body early and plan the certification process so that compliance delays do not hold up market entry.
