Between 16 and 23 December 2025 the French National Frequency Agency (ANFR) published three compliance notices covering specific absorption rate (SAR) exceedances on two smartphones and a breach concerning child protection functions on another. All three have now been remedied.
BLACKVIEW SHARK 8 exceeds head SAR limit
Testing by a laboratory commissioned by ANFR found that the head SAR of the BLACKVIEW SHARK 8 exceeded the EU safety limit of 2 W/kg. ANFR required the manufacturer, BLACKVIEW, to take corrective action. The company issued a software update that reduced the transmit power of the device when communicating near the head. ANFR verified that the head SAR of the updated device fell within the regulatory limit. The update can be pushed automatically to users over mobile networks or Wi-Fi.
OUKITEL WP36 breaches limb SAR limit
In the same round of testing, the limb SAR of the OUKITEL WP36 measured 5.40 W/kg, above the EU limit of 4 W/kg. The manufacturer, OUKITEL, also issued a software update reducing transmit power. ANFR confirmed that the limb SAR of the updated device fell to 2.97 W/kg, within the rules. The update has likewise been pushed automatically to affected devices over cellular networks or Wi-Fi.
Google Pixel 9 missing parental control option
The third notice concerns a non-radiation safety issue. ANFR found that Google's Pixel 9 did not, in certain circumstances, particularly when a minor over 15 was setting up the device for the first time, offer users the option to activate parental control as required by French Law No. 2022-300 of 2 March 2022. After formal notification from ANFR, Google released a software update on 14 November 2025 fixing the issue. ANFR confirmed that, after the update, the device offers the parental control option in all circumstances during initial setup, and users can decide for themselves whether to enable it.
ANFR is the French authority responsible for market surveillance of radio equipment and spectrum compliance, and this series of notices reflects its continued strict supervision of the safety and regulatory conformity of communication products. In every case the manufacturers took effective action and completed remediation through software updates, and the risks have been removed.
