The Ministry of Industry and Advanced Technology (MOIAT) of the United Arab Emirates has developed national technical requirements for electric vehicles, UAE.S 2698:2023. The standard will apply to all electric vehicles capable of speeds above 25 km/h. It specifies requirements for electric vehicles to help reduce deaths and injuries in crashes and to prevent electric shock caused by battery electrolyte spillage, intrusion of battery system components into the passenger compartment and electric shock.
Note that all vehicles should carry an electric vehicle performance label showing the declared performance values. The standard states that energy consumption must not exceed 300 Wh/km and that the total maximum range of the vehicle must be 200 km.
Manufacturers will also find requirements for marking labels and accompanying documentation in the standard.
The standard was developed alongside GSO technical regulations and international electric vehicle standards. It becomes mandatory once approved by UAE Cabinet resolution as a UAE technical regulation.
