On 10 February 2023 the International Electrotechnical Commission (IEC) published IEC 61969-1:2023, Mechanical structures for electrical and electronic equipment - Outdoor enclosures - Part 1: Design guidelines. The standard is available as IEC 61969-1:2023 RLV, which contains the international standard together with its redline version showing all the technical content changes compared with the previous edition.
IEC 61969-1:2023 covers design guidelines for outdoor enclosures for electrical and electronic equipment. It applies to mechanical, electromechanical and electronic equipment and its installation in a wide range of fields, using modular design.
The purposes of the standard are:
1) to provide an overview of the enclosure specification, focusing on requirements for outdoor enclosures permanently installed in locations that are not weather-protected;
2) to achieve product integrity under outdoor conditions and to facilitate product selection when outdoor enclosures are purchased from different suppliers.
