Transition: most amendments take effect immediately or after 12 months; the provisions covering B.2.74 electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE), B.2.75 battery energy storage system equipment (BESS) and B.2.78 portable power stations have a 24-month transition period.
Main changes
1. B.2.74 electric vehicle supply equipment (EVSE) covers AC and DC chargers, bidirectional chargers, charging cable assemblies and vehicle adaptors, with explicit reference to IEC 61851-1, AS/NZS 4777.2 and IEC 62477-1.
B.2.75 battery energy storage system equipment (BESS) covers stationary storage systems; lithium battery types must comply with SA TS 5398:2025 and other types reference AS/NZS 4777.2 and related standards.
2. B.2.78 portable power stations are defined as portable or movable devices providing AC output with an internal battery system, and must comply with AS/NZS 4763 (currently under revision).
3. B.2.76 extension cord sets are defined as portable extension devices consisting only of a plug, flexible cord and socket-outlet, and must comply with AS/NZS 3199.
4. B.2.77 heat pump water heaters explicitly exclude models with heating elements and must comply with AS/NZS 60335.2.40 and AS/NZS 60335.2.21.
The amendment is more than a routine standards update: it is a comprehensive upgrading of safety and compliance requirements for emerging electrical equipment in the Australian and New Zealand markets. EVSE, BESS and portable power stations will all face stricter technical requirements and market access conditions.
