The Saudi Standards, Metrology and Quality Organization (SASO) has announced that it will not extend its previous policy of accepting self-declaration for USB Type-C interface requirements. From 1 January 2026, technical test reports demonstrating compliance with the standards for Type-C charging ports and power delivery become a mandatory document for the following 12 product categories applying for Saudi market certification.
Products in scope
The scope is broad and covers everyday consumer electronics and accessories:
- mobile phones
- tablets
- digital cameras
- e-readers
- portable video game consoles
- headphones and earphones
- speakers and portable speakers
- keyboards
- computer mice
- portable navigation systems
- wireless routers
Standards update
Under the new rules, the products must be tested to SASO IEC 62680-1-2:2023 and SASO IEC 62680-1-3:2023 and a formal test report confirming compliance with Type-C charging port and power delivery requirements must be submitted. The change is intended to further standardise the market and ensure that electronic devices sold in Saudi Arabia meet a uniform level of safety, performance and interoperability at the charging interface.
Manufacturers, exporters and certification applicants should plan ahead and allow sufficient time for testing and certification so that products can enter the Saudi market smoothly after the 1 January 2026 deadline.
