On 10 March 2023 the Telecommunication Engineering Centre (TEC) of India published the test items that may be exempted under the mandatory testing and certification (MTCTE) essential requirements (ER) for single mode optical fibre and optical fibre cable products. Unless otherwise notified, the exemptions are valid until 30 June 2023. The exempted test items are as follows:

| Optical fibre cable | Short circuit test |
| Optical fibre cable | Lightning arc test |
| Optical fibre cable | Salt spray corrosion test |
| Optical fibre cable | Flame spread - bunched cable |
| Optical fibre cable | Smoke test |
| Optical fibre cable | Acid gas (toxicity), test on toxic gases evolved during combustion of materials from cables |

| Optical fibre cable | Damp heat test |
| Optical fibre cable | Electrical characteristics - power feeding wires |
| Optical fibre cable | Transfer impedance and coupling attenuation |
