On 9 December 2025 the European Commission adopted Implementing Decision (EU) 2025/2499 amending Implementing Decision (EU) 2022/2191, updating a series of harmonised standards for short range devices and aircraft communication systems. The decision was published in the Official Journal on 11 December and took effect on the date of publication.
Under the Radio Equipment Directive (2014/53/EU), radio equipment conforming to published harmonised standards is presumed to meet the essential requirements of the directive. The amendment reflects technical developments and keeps the standards aligned with current regulatory requirements.
Main changes
Five harmonised standards are added, covering the following areas.
Short range devices (SRD): equipment operating in the 25 MHz to 1000 MHz band with power not exceeding 500 mW (EN 300 220-2 V3.3.1); level probing radar using ultra-wideband technology and mounted strictly vertically downwards (EN 302 729-1 V3.1.1); data network equipment in the 865-868 MHz and 915-919.4 MHz bands (EN 303 659 V1.1.1); and short range devices in parts of the 40 GHz to 260 GHz band, such as tank level probing radar (EN 305 550-6 V1.2.1).
Aircraft communication systems (MCOBA): standard EN 302 480 V3.1.1.
Three older standards withdrawn: the references to the previous versions of three of the newly added standards (EN 300 220-2 V3.1.1, EN 302 480 V2.2.1 and EN 302 729 V2.1.1) will be removed from the Official Journal to give manufacturers a transition period. The withdrawal takes effect on 11 June 2027.
