Mexico's Federal Institute of Telecommunications (IFETEL) published Disposición Técnica IFT-017-2023 on 10 February 2025. The forthcoming test standard for 5 GHz and 6 GHz WLAN equipment takes effect on 7 November 2025. Major laboratories and certification bodies are registered and ready to handle new applications under the standard.

Certification transition

Type B and Type C certificates issued previously remain valid under the terms on which they were granted.

Type B and Type C certificates are valid for two years. To obtain indefinite validity, the holder of a Type B or Type C certificate of conformity must present the technical memorandum (Memoria Técnica) of an authorised expert (perito) within the 90 days before the end of the two-year period from issue.

- Type B certificates of conformity already issued and reviewed remain valid indefinitely.

- Type C certificates of conformity already issued and reviewed remain valid indefinitely unless monitoring under the corresponding certificate of conformity is required.

Where a Type B or Type C certificate has not yet reached the point of submitting the expert review before IFT-017 takes effect, the new standard applies when indefinite validity is requested.

Once the technical provision takes effect, the specifications and test methods relating to the 5725-5850 MHz band in IFT-008-2015 (NOM-208-SCFI-2016) cease to apply to digitally modulated equipment and to the digital modulation part of hybrid equipment.

Equipment for which the approval process began before the technical provision took effect, operating in the 5150-5250 MHz, 5250-5350 MHz, 5470-5600 MHz, 5650-5725 MHz and 5925-6425 MHz bands or across them, will be handled under the Type B or Type C approval procedure.
