Temperature and humidity combined cycling testing exposes specimens to a test environment with alternating temperature and humidity under defined conditions, and evaluates the changes in functional characteristics of specimens after cycling or storage under temperature and humidity conditions.
The environments in which products are stored and operated always involve some level of temperature and humidity, and these are constantly changing. For example: temperature differences between day and night, different humidity at different temperatures and times, and products passing through regions with different temperature and humidity conditions during transportation. Such alternating temperature and humidity environments affect product performance and life and accelerate product ageing. Temperature and humidity cycling simulates the temperature and humidity environments in which products are stored and operated, and checks whether the effects on a product after a period in such an environment are within acceptable limits.
It verifies the ability of products and materials to withstand environmental changes under high and low temperatures and atmospheric humidity.
Purpose of high-low temperature cycling: to examine the effect of thermal stress on product performance after prolonged exposure to alternating hot and cold temperatures.
Purpose of damp heat testing: to examine the deterioration characteristics of products in high temperature and high humidity environments, to evaluate the moisture absorption and condensation characteristics of materials, and the storage and service performance of products in damp heat environments.
Main effects of temperature and humidity cycling:
· Absorption of moisture causing materials to swell
· Loss of physical strength
· Changes in chemical properties
· Degradation of insulation performance
· Corrosion of parts and failure of lubricants
· Oxidation of materials
· Loss of plasticity
· Accelerated chemical reactions
· Degradation of electronic components
