The Spectrum Management Authority (SMA) is the national body responsible for regulating conformity assessment of radio and telecom products in Jamaica and issuing certificates of conformity (CoC). The SMA is a limited liability company wholly owned by the Government of Jamaica, with the Jamaica Postal Corporation and the Accountant General's Department holding equal shares. It was established in 2000 under the Telecommunications Act 2000 and began operations in April 2001. Conformity testing in Jamaica is based on RED or FCC test reports. When applying for type approval, an approval certificate and technical documents must be submitted to the SMA, and under Jamaican regulations a production sample must also be submitted.
