Belize is the only country in Central America with English as its official language. Its name derives from the Belize River and the largest city, Belize City, which is the former capital; the new capital is Belmopan. Belize borders the Bay of Honduras to the east, Honduras across the bay (only 75 km apart at the nearest point), Mexico to the north, Guatemala to the west and south, and the Caribbean Sea to the east. It has an area of 22,966 km² and a population of 405,000 (2022), divided into six districts.
The Public Utilities Commission (PUC) administers wireless type approval in Belize. The PUC was established in 2001 and combines the traditional regulator, the electricity supply office and the telecommunications office, regulating the electricity, water and telecommunications sectors in Belize.
