Curacao is an island in the southern Caribbean near the Venezuelan coast. Formerly part of the Netherlands Antilles, it became an autonomous constituent country of the Kingdom of the Netherlands on 10 October 2010. The capital is the port city of Willemstad, formerly also the capital of the Netherlands Antilles. Curacao, together with neighbouring Aruba and Bonaire, is often referred to as the ABC islands.
Curacao is a Dutch Caribbean island but is not an EU member state. The government body responsible for approval is the Curacao Bureau Telecommunicatie & Post (BURTEL), a multi-sector independent regulator. All equipment with wireless transmission and reception capability that can connect to telecommunications infrastructure must be certified and type approved before entering Curacao, i.e. it must comply with BT&P certification.
