Lightning is a common atmospheric discharge phenomenon in nature. According to statistics there are more than 40,000 thunderstorm centres worldwide and about 8 million lightning strikes occur every day, meaning at least 100 strikes per second. Lightning releases enormous energy in an instant and causes tremendous destructive effects when it strikes an object. A direct lightning discharge produces electrothermal, high-voltage, high-current and shockwave effects, and without protection causes enormous economic losses.
NTEK has high-voltage direct lightning simulation technology, capable of direct lightning strikes with a maximum current of 200 kA, simulating the electrical discharge produced when a thundercloud discharges directly to earth through a building or equipment. This is used to study the damage mechanism, forms of damage and protection technology of direct lightning strikes.
