Barbados' Telecoms Unit (TU) regulates type approval in the country. The Telecoms Unit was established by the Government of Barbados and currently sits under the Ministry of Innovation, Science and Smart Technology. It is the technical arm of the ministry responsible for telecommunications.
Its mission is to promote a competitive, fully liberalised telecommunications sector while realising the government's vision of making Barbados the centre of excellence for information technology and telecommunications in the Caribbean. The Unit performs its regulatory and licensing functions under Chapter 282B of the Telecommunications Act.
