Water absorption = (M2 - M1) / M1 × 100%
Test method (standards: ASTM D570, ISO 62)
1. Dry the sample in an oven (50°C / 24 h), transfer to a desiccator and cool to room temperature, then weigh the sample to obtain M1.
2. Immerse the specimen in distilled water at 23°C for 24 h, remove it, remove surface water with filter paper and weigh again within one minute to obtain M2.
Specimen dimensions
1. Disc: diameter 50 mm, thickness 4 mm
2. Square: 60 mm × 60 mm × 1 mm
3. Bar: 76.2 mm × 25.4 mm × 3.2 mm

Moisture content is the actual water content in a material under specified conditions. For the same material, moisture content is generally lower than water absorption.
