Test Overview
Xenon lamp aging testing mainly reproduces the damage caused to materials by natural sunlight and moisture. Under simulated full-spectrum sunlight exposure, it detects the aging of materials exposed to sunlight. Product or material aging is mainly affected by three factors: temperature, humidity and light radiation. Xenon lamp aging testing uses the full spectrum (UV, visible and infrared light) provided by the xenon arc lamps in the aging chamber to reproduce the aging effects of sunlight. Xenon lamp aging is generally applied to non-metallic materials such as rubber and plastics.
Test Purpose
Xenon lamp aging testing targets outdoor sunlight exposure conditions and can simulate a full-spectrum solar environment, faithfully reproducing the changes that occur when products are exposed to sunlight for long periods. It provides environmental simulation and accelerated light aging tests for scientific research, product development and quality control.
Application Scope
Mainly used for automobiles, coatings, paints, printing and packaging, pigments, textiles, roofing materials, rubber, plastics, surface coatings, etc.
Test Standards
General Standards
IEC 68-2-9 — Basic environmental testing procedures - Part 2: Guidance for solar radiation testing
ISO 4892-1 Plastics - Methods of exposure to laboratory light sources - Part 1: General guidance
ASTM G151 General guidance for exposing nonmetallic materials
ASTM G155 Operating xenon arc light apparatus for exposure of nonmetallic materials
Other industries, including automotive, coatings and pigments, inks, pharmaceuticals, plastics, rubber, textiles and building materials, have their own industry-specific xenon lamp aging standards.
