Carbon black is an amorphous form of carbon: a light, loose, extremely fine black powder with a very large surface area ranging from 10 to 3,000 m²/g. It is the product of incomplete combustion or thermal decomposition of carbon-containing substances (coal, natural gas, heavy oil, fuel oil, etc.) under insufficient air.
Carbon black is one of the indispensable chemical raw materials of the modern economy. Its uses include: in rubber products, a certain amount of carbon black provides reinforcement and filling to improve performance; pigment carbon black is mainly used as a black pigment in inks and paints; and conductive carbon black uses the low or high resistance of certain carbon blacks for different products.
