PFOS (perfluorooctane sulfonate) is the abbreviation of perfluorooctane sulfonate. On 27 December 2006 the European Parliament and the Council jointly issued Directive 2006/122/EC on restrictions on the marketing and use of perfluorooctane sulfonates. The Directive took effect on 27 June 2008, was repealed on 31 May 2009, and the corresponding control requirements were incorporated into the restrictions section of the REACH Regulation.
