Since 13 August 2005, producers of electrical and electronic equipment circulating in the EU market have been legally responsible for financing the recycling of end-of-life products. EU member states are obliged to establish their own take-back schemes for electrical and electronic products and build associated collection facilities, so that end users can dispose of end-of-life equipment conveniently and free of charge.
Producer responsibility: design environmentally friendly products, comply with the RoHS Directive and register with EU member states.
Product marking requirements: producer name, production date and the relevant mark (the WEEE crossed-out bin symbol).

The symbol indicates that the product must not be disposed of as municipal waste and must be handled separately through appropriate recycling and collection systems. Following these instructions ensures correct disposal of the product and helps reduce potential impacts on the environment and human health that improper handling could otherwise cause. Recycling products helps conserve natural resources and protect the environment.
