Torsion life testing evaluates the durability of wires, cables, connectors and flexible assemblies under repeated twisting. The sample is clamped at both ends and subjected to repeated rotation through a specified angle and rate, and the number of cycles until conductor breakage, insulation damage or electrical performance degradation is recorded as the torsion life.
The test is widely used for charging cables, headphone cables, data cables and wire harnesses. Key control parameters include torsion angle, torsion speed, tensile load during torsion, fixture clamping length and the pass/fail criteria for conductor resistance. Twist testing is often combined with bending and tensile testing to simulate the combined stresses of real use.
