Packaging is an indispensable part of commodities and plays an essential role in circulation. Packaging materials are often discarded arbitrarily by consumers after use and enter the soil, where the hazardous substances they contain directly harm the environment. Countries around the world therefore attach great importance to the control of packaging materials. EU Directive 94/62/EC on packaging and packaging waste sets requirements on restrictions of hazardous substances, reusability, recyclability and recycled content.
US packaging regulation TPCH (CONEG)
CONEG was a regional regulation established in 1989 by the Coalition of Northeastern Governors (eight states) to reduce heavy metal content in packaging and packaging materials. With the establishment of TPCH in 1992, CONEG was renamed TPCH. The TPCH test methods and requirements are the same as CONEG and remain unchanged, and the requirements on controlled products and toxic and hazardous substances are basically consistent with those of the EU.
