In recent years electric vehicles have flourished. The main difference from conventional vehicles is the way power is input and output. Conventional vehicles are powered by petrol and an engine, which interferes little with in-vehicle multimedia and sensor signal transmission. Electric vehicles are powered by the traction battery and motor at higher voltages.
As high-voltage electrical and electronic devices are used more and more widely in vehicles, the cables and connectors linking various high-voltage devices also increase. A high-voltage platform brings many benefits but also many challenges, of which stable electromagnetic compatibility (EMC) technology is a crucial element.
When high-voltage signal levels switch — for example at the drive motor — large amounts of electromagnetic interference are generated inside the high-voltage harness. If these signals are not well shielded, they interfere with in-vehicle low-voltage systems, satellite positioning, Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, 3G/4G networks, radar, 5G NR and wireless charging, causing malfunction and potentially very serious consequences.
NTEK has introduced the surface transfer impedance and shielding attenuation test system, fixtures and software from Rosenberger of Germany to evaluate and test high-voltage shielded harnesses and connectors. The authority of its test results is recognised by vehicle manufacturers at home and abroad.
